Opportunities are open to anyone aged 18 or above.  We usually advertise from December to early January each year with involvement taking place in the following February.

Volunteer with Us

Volunteers help welcome a wide range of visitors coming to York for one of Europe’s largest Viking Festivals.

The roles available each year will be found here but usually focus on visitor facing roles helping us to;

  • Host information points
  • Run family activities
  • Undertake visitor surveys
  • Steward Events
  • Help with indoor family crafting activities.

Volunteering offers a fun, flexible and short-term opportunity to be a part of the Festival. It is ideally suited to anyone with a love of York’s Viking heritage. Existing knowledge of Viking history or archaeology experience is not needed for most of our roles; all we ask is that you enjoy talking to a wide range of people and help us deliver an excellent experience.

There are a range of opportunities available from a couple of hours to repeated sessions across the week. Across the Festival there are different days and times for you to volunteer.

If you would like to know when we have spaces available or when we advertise any new volunteer opportunities you can sign-up to our Volunteer and Placement Mailing list here

  • Undertaking activities with the marketing department

Placement roles will be advertised here from December – early January each year with placements taking place over the Festival week each February.
